Substance Abuse Coalition of Kanabec County (SACK) has received Grant Funding from Proof Alliance.

SACK and partner host, Recovering Hope Treatment Center, are proud to announce the award of a $2500 grant from the Proof Alliance to host the 2nd Annual FASD Awareness Walk, Run, Roll on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Mora Elementary and the FirstLight Wellness Center. Each year, over 7,000 babies are born in Minnesota with prenatal alcohol exposure. Prenatal exposure to alcohol continues to be a public health issue and puts an exposed child at risk for a range of physical and neurodevelopmental disabilities, known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), that persist across the lifespan. The lifetime cost for an individual with an FASD can be as high as $2.9 million, and FASD is estimated to cost Minnesotans $131 million each year to support families and individuals with this disorder.

Since 1998, Proof Alliance (formerly the Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) has working to prevent prenatal alcohol exposure and to improve the quality of life for those living with FASD. For more information, visit proofalliance.org.
