At our October 7, 2014 Coalition meeting Mikki Maruska, the State of Minnesota’s Director of Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment will join us as a follow up to previous presentations on Adverse Childhood Experiences. We wanted to know more about the life long effects and what we can do to provide tools for health and success in our schools and community.
Minnesotans with more ACEs were more likely to rate their health as fair or poor, to have been diagnosed with depression or anxiety, to report smoking and chronic drinking, to have been diagnosed with asthma, and to be obese. Despite all of this, adversity is not the end of the story. There is increasing understanding about resilience and what families, communities, and systems can do to protect children and support adults with ACEs.*
