Representatives of Senator Klobuchar office were at Lakes and Pines Monday, October 16th to facilitate the first in a series of public forums being held in Northern Minnesota. Community representation from First Light Health Systems, Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office, Recovering Hope Treatment Center, The Refuge, and interested community members were in attendance.
Klobuchar staff members listened as local leaders described how substance abuse in our area effects local resources and limits the ability for those that need help to get it.
Senator Klobuchar announced last month that Minnesota was awarded major federal funding aimed at combating the opioid epidemic and was made available through bipartison legislation that she led and supported. St. Louis county will receive a $675,000 grant and $6 million will go to the Minnesota Department of Human Services to expand access to medication-assisted treatment in Minnesota.
In 2016, drug over doses claimed the lives of 637 people in Minnesota.
